I don't like labeling myself, but if anything, I am generally a positive person. I like thinkers who have intellectual curiosity to seek to understand and engage views that are different from their own. I am interested in cultures outside the Western world. I believe in integration. Is multi-ethnic nationalism oxymoronic? I currently live in England.

Hello. Well, he might unblock you soon. Perhaps, he blocked you at the heat of the moment. It seems evident that he has strong views on certain things. Mind you, there are many members here who have firm beliefs, rightly or wrongly. For example, blanket attack on Muslims by Christians seems pretty common on this site (no personal offence; just an observation). I can't see any difference between that and Facci not thinking much of atheists, to be honest.

'Your right is someone's responsibility.
Naomi comments on Dec 8, 2019:
I should think that maintaining good health essentially comes under individual responsibilities. One should take care of one's health by eating well, exercising well, etc. Because I'm entitled to health, it shouldn't mean that I can damage my health and expect someone to fix it for me. Health is a human right, i.e., a legal entitlement, and it means that the state is obliged to protect it. When my right is someone's responsibility, that also means someone's right is my responsibility. It then means that everyone's responsible for everyone else's health, in other words, it is the responsibility of the entire society, i.e., collective responsibility. I understand that health is part of the right to live, which is also a human right. Some people were born with ill health, e.g., chronic diseases, disabilities, etc. In that case, they were already deprived of the right to live at the very beginning of their lives. It seems wrong if they have to find money by themselves for the medical treatment they need. I should think that they're entitled to ask the society for help. Because the state is obliged to protect the right to health, does that mean the state should also be obliged to provide all the medical treatment everyone needs? For example, having a baby (without any complication, that is) or cosmetic surgeries may not be covered by a national healthcare system; they may not be considered as illnesses. I also think it is OK that people are given the choice to access private healthcare services if they can afford and if they continue to pay tax to support the NHS. In the case where only private healthcare services are available, then, perhaps the state should monitor and regulate them to ensure that the standard of healthcare is kept high and that all prices are kept low so that everybody can afford the medical care they need. That is my train of thought, so far... It's complicated!

Naomi comments on Dec 6, 2019:
Thank you everyone for your valid and valuable views and comments. I don't necessarily support banning any kind of free speech, but I'm happy to admit that I am not a free speech absolutist. In my opinion, the decision of whether of not banning someone from speech is basically made from the viewpoint and interpretation of the recipient of that speech, whereas the decision of whether or not the right to speak freely is abused relies on the intention of the speaker. This is not limited to free speech; people use their rights/entitlements/privileges for wrong reasons, intentionally, and that is to me a violation. We have speakers corners in Britain which are public spaces where people speak freely their views no matter how ridiculous they may be (e.g., flat earth theory) and they are challenged by listeners, but no debates lead to any violence because they progress in a civil manner. I think this is a good example of free speech being exercised by law-abiding people. We basically know how to behave, by common sense probably, yet, we love romanticising freedom of speech and fantasising free speech absolutism. It is a strange phenomenon to me.

Additional info: *~ Dr. Adrian Rogers (1931-2005) American pastor Often attributed to Dr. Rogers with an incorrect date of 1931. The quotation is part of a longer 1984 sermon in a larger series titled "God’s Way to Health, Wealth and Wisdom" (CDA107); it also appears in Dr. Rogers' 1996 work "Ten Secrets for a Successful Family" stating that "by and large our young people do not know either the importance or the value of honest labor". Rogers did not originate the quote and did not claim to have originated it. Instead, he was citing almost verbatim a bit of anti-Soviet propaganda that had circulated in many magazines in the early 1960's. The quote appeared before that in the Congressional Record of 1958, where they were appended to the record by congressman Bruce Alger. Alger had borrowed the words from Gerald L. K. Smith, who had written them first in his magazine, The Cross and the Flag. Since the quote was attributed to Rogers in 2009, it has been regularly attributed to him; however, Rogers was essentially quoting Smith at the time.* - *LibertyTree* Still good, though.

Hello. I guess depending on how you see education services and healthcare service, the starting point of thinking process can vary. If you see that children are our future and it is our duty, as a nation, to educate them well (we will subsequently benefit from their abilities and skills, as teachers and doctors, for example), you will consider paying towards education services, including paying teachers well. Similarly, if you see that living a healthy life is a basic human right, and it is our duty, as a nation, to protect that right, you will consider paying towards healthcare services, including paying doctors well. Meanwhile, if you see students and patients as customers, education and healthcare services as products, and teachers an doctors (and the institutions they belong to) as providers, that'll be very much a free-market concept. In that case, teachers' and doctors' wages will be dependent on the profits made by the institutions, no?
A Man Was Set on Fire During Hong Kong Protests - YouTube
Naomi comments on Nov 17, 2019:
I am not pro-China, in terms of political status, hell no. But I cannot kid myself and use the Chinese totalitarian government as an excuse for overlooking such a criminal act committed by Hong Kong protesters. At the beginning of the video, it seems that the man in green had already been attacked by protesters; he was bleeding. Some insults were thrown at him and that's when he returned to the protesters to confront them. Whether or not you agree with the man, and he does not talk in the most respectful manner, he is still entitled to his opinion and he is free to express it - that is the very principle of free speech, no? Yet, the protesters (or at least one of them) silenced the man by setting him on fire. In that case, they don't understand the first thing about free speech. If anything, they're the ones who are behaving like totalitarians in my opinion. Hong Kong is definitely witnessing a breakdown of law and order. The Chinese government could have crushed the protests ages ago if they wanted to, but they haven't done so... It's odd... as if they're letting Hong Kong destroy itself...? I don't know. I've read or heard somewhere that Hong Kong isn't all that important to China.

Naomi comments on Nov 16, 2019:
Emotions like conceit and envy are usually regarded as bad things, and because I think so, too, when I recognise these bad emotions in myself, I manage not to let them surface. They are ugly things and I don't like the fact that I have them in me, but at the same time, I don't think I can eliminate them forever because I think it's human nature. Incidentally, according to Buddhism, there are as many as 108 defilements like envy and conceit. And if I tell you I never have these bad emotions, I will be lying. Anyway, my train of thought was: If we were all equal, we wouldn't have emotions like conceit and envy, in other words, we have these emotions because we are unequal in the first place. For example, you may feel envious if someone earns more than you, and you may feel defeated by the envy you have towards that person or you can change that envy to the driving force of motivation so that you will do better in your life. Conceit is a synonym of narcissism. Narcissistic people are competitive and motivated by their own achievements, and they will continue to strive to achieve further. I was wondering if what is originally regarded as a bad emotion can give a person motivation to do better, that may be because there is inequality in the first place, and it may be a law of nature in human society.
Do you feel better about yourself by comparing yourself with someone who is not doing as well as you...
Naomi comments on Nov 16, 2019:
Is it plausible that if we're all equal, we'll have no motivation to achieve anything? For example, we won't be able to measure or compare achievements because they're all equally good. There won't be any competition; there is no need to do better or worse because we are all at the same level. Isn't that kind of against human nature? Is inequality a law of nature?

The bride was half Parsi, half Hindu and the bridegroom was English, and the wedding was carried out mostly in a Hindu fashion with some Western elements to it. It was the most beautiful wedding I've ever been invited to. I am an immigrant myself, and my understanding is that because I live in a foreign country, it doesn't mean that I have to abandon my cultural background - I simply can't because it is a big part of my identity. I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping it and practising it in my own personal space with those who appreciate it.

*"The revolutionary war is a war of the masses; only mobilizing the masses and relying on them can wage it."* It's Mao who said this. He believed that violence and support from the masses were necessary in seeking to overthrow one political order in society and replace it with another. *“No person has the right to initiate physical force against another human being.”* The Non-Aggression Principle is a defining principle of libertarianism. I cannot support both at the same time...

Hello. Interesting. I always think that the middle class are hit the hardest in a sense that they earn just a little too much to be entitled to any benefit or allowance. They have to manage everything all by themselves, i.e., pay everything in full including taxes. :(

Do you support the notion that the revolutionary war is a war of the masses; only mobilizing the masses and relying on them can wage it?

As always, thank you very much for sincerely responding to my question and letting me share your knowledge. There is a lot of information to explore. Much appreciated. What I don't appreciate very much is that some people hijack others' posts for creative-writing practice. It often happens on this site. On this occasion, I'm afraid that being unable to answer my question directly and therefore deciding to sarcastically negate its validity, let alone displaying a self-indulgent, pretentious piece of writing with little substantiation is not welcome. It is an arrogance that is evident. Incidentally, I take no pleasure in making such a critical observation. There is nothing wrong with using this site for writing practice, and in that case, one should make one's own posts for that purpose. Again, thanks ever so much for your help. I'm learning a lot!

Hello. With all due respect, I've forgotten what KH's mission is. What is she trying to achieve by calling out Muslims and other foreign beings in the UK. I think that the right thing she could do is to form her own political party and become a Member of Parliament so as to properly address whatever she thinks is a problem for the people in the UK.

Hello. A similar problem is found with anglers; some leave used hooks and fish line behind, which is against the silent protocol among anglers.

This is a simple question. I want to know more about postmodernism as a subject. Because someone studies about Karl Marx, it doesn't make that person a Marxist. You can learn about Christianity without becoming a Christian. So, do you know anyone who can explain postmodernism differently from JP or SH?
