Taxpayers lose when the government gives out 'free' stuff- [reason.com]
coalburned comments on Aug 1, 2019:
Every one of these candidates is essentially attempting to buy votes. Pandering for votes isn't a very sophisticated strategy, but right now I think these folks just want to get their name in lights and see how they rank. At some point the question of how all this stuff gets funded will have to be addressed. They can't just say the rich will pay. There has to be a legitimate, workable plan, and if one can't be articulated, they better have something else interesting to talk about. There are some who are naive enough to think the money will magically appear, but fortunately most voters are smarter than that.

The President Is Right About Baltimore - The Resurgent
coalburned comments on Jul 29, 2019:
I've posted on this a few times lately. Racism/racist are tossed around so carelessly the days that they are almost meaningless words. Trump was correct about conditions in Baltimore. I wish he would choose better words, but that's how he rolls. But it for sure doesn't make him a racist to call it like it is.
Why Democrat’s obsession with race won’t win them minority votes. [nypost.com]
coalburned comments on Jul 29, 2019:
Alan West is right....the words racist and racism are virtually meaningless today, stripped of their true meaning by those who misuse them in their attempts to manipulate public thought. I think more and more minorities are seeing that Dems are pandering for votes, revealing their belief that minorities are incapable of being self-reliant and independent. Don't be surprised if you see a growing number of minorities to shift to the right.
Too bad there Rob.

This is good food for thought. Thanks for sharing. After reading this I agree there are many in power now who seek to force culture to submit to politics. I can't help but wonder how much has already happened, particularly through the courts? I'm also curious how big tech factors in. We live in a world that seemingly can't live without it. That puts a lot of power in their hands.

coalburned comments on Jul 19, 2019:
Sad indeed. Alan West recently wrote an outstanding article on how the word racist has become virtually useless, like so many other words employees the left uses to avoid respectful debate and marginalize anyone who has a different point of view. Either you agree with them or you get a label.

I live here, and I was appalled by what this young woman has to face. Some are crying foul that the shooter walked, but the grand jury determined her actions were consistent with Stand Your Ground laws, so I don't have a bone to pick there. But this young woman chose to have her baby. She didn't choose abortion. If she had, the result would be the same...the tragic death of an unborn child. Someone please explain to me why the willful termination of an unborn child is ok, but the unplanned, unwanted, accidental killing of the unborn is manslaughter.

coalburned comments on Jun 18, 2019:
Antisemitism may or may not be intended to discourage criticism. It's often an accurate descriptor. Islamophobia, along with all the other "-phobias" are silly labels that have found their way into the language as a way to shame or marginalize opposing viewpoints and shut down meaningful dialog.

I wouldn't disagree, but I think it's an over-simplification. You'd have to delve into why they dislike the current state of affairs, and I doubt we have enough time or space here for that discussion. My simplified view is that there are forces out there that crave power, dominance, and wealth. You can't maintain control over millions (billions?) of people unless you consolidate it at the government level. Take a look at most Progressive causes and see if there are any that don't lead to expanded govt, both in size and degree of control. Every one of us knows the old adage; power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If we let the govt grow large and give it great control over our freedoms, those freedoms will inevitably cease to exist. And getting them back will be next to impossible. A few simple examples will demonstrate their unwillingness to part with their gains. Can you imagine getting Congress to give itself a pay cut? How about term limits? Would they curb spending and give the taxes back to the people? The government doesn't give back what it gets without a mighty struggle.
Christianity is under ATTACK in Australia - YouTube
coalburned comments on Jun 17, 2019:
While the carnal side of me wants to cry foul and fight back, the Spirit reminds me that Jesus predicted that his followers would be persecuted. Persecution takes a variety of forms, but maybe we should be thankful. The church doesn't grow much during times of prosperity because...well, we all understand human nature. We grow and become stronger under adversity. So does the church. Persecution isn't necessarily a bad thing from God's perspective. I think it saddens him, but he sees the potential for good to flow from it. I know it sounds odd to be thankful for times like these, but we've collectively brought them on ourselves, and if we submit to God's plan, these could be truly great times from his point of view.

The legalisation of abortion infuriates many people because abortion means killing lives.
coalburned comments on Jun 6, 2019:
Naomi, I think we all understand that the euthanizing of unwanted animals is bothersome to you. You're not alone. But unless you are putting animal life on the same level as human life, saying that animal euthanasia is as bad as abortion is an emotional position. Don't get me wrong, I think pretty much everyone agrees that putting animals down simply because they are unwanted is sad and tragic. But it's no where near the level of taking a human life. And I don't know about you, but I find it pretty odd that animals that are euthanized die quite peacefully, while abortion, particularly at later stages of pregnancy, is absolutely barbaric. Again, I understand your argument here, and I wholeheartedly agree that animal euthanasia is sometimes done for lousy reasons. But comparing it to abortion isn't the way to solve the problem. The only way that argument flies, in my opinion, is if you think animal life is on the same level as human life. For reasons I've stated elsewhere here, that is most definitely not the case.

Fun Imaginary game. If you had the power to implement 3 changes to law...What would they be?
coalburned comments on Jun 5, 2019:
1. Term limits for all Congressional seats 2. Media Accountability Act. I like @PaulBuckingham suggestion better than what I was thinking, so let's go with that. 3. This would be difficult to define, but I'd like to see| a law that automatically penalizes anyone who brings a frivolous lawsuit that is thrown out of court. The problem, of course, is defining what constitutes frivolous. Judges could make the determination, but that would likely lead to a lot of inconsistency. But maybe just the threat of penalty would deter many who are just up to no good. Maybe penalize the lawyers who take on those cases, too.

I have been asked lately to prove from the Bible Jesus is God.
coalburned comments on Apr 26, 2019:
It sounds like you're dealing with a skeptic. Most of them I've encountered don't want to do any heavy lifting, but would rather put the burden of proof on you, then poke holes in your arguments. The simplest reference is John 1:1-4, which says clearly that the Word (Jesus) is God. I don't know if that constitutes "proof". I suppose it depends on whether or not you consider the Bible to be authoritative.
Do you know the exact date you came to faith?
coalburned comments on Apr 26, 2019:
No, I don't. I know some people can, but I suspect most of us don't. I used to feel like something was wrong because I couldn't pinpoint a date. I remember when I was baptized, which is actually more meaningful to me. Your salvation experience is totally unique because God's plan for your life is totally unique. Your experiences, upbringing, temperament, family dynamic, education, how you heard the gospel and how you responded to it are unquestionably one of a kind. Consider, too, that hearing the gospel and believing it don't equal salvation. I don't remember a time when I didn't believe Jesus is who he says he is and that he died so we might have eternal life. But I can assure you I spent many years unsaved. It wasn't until I changed my view of sin that everything changed. Don't compare yourself and your testimony to anyone else's. The only thing people need to hear is how your life was without Christ, and how is it now.

But I've never been utterly hopeless, helpless, or so depressed that ending my life seemed like a better option.

I understand exactly what you're saying. The problem is, who decides what is morally acceptable, and when do we cross the line into censorship? I'm afraid the answer, which is increasingly difficult to maintain today, is a strong family unit. The gradual collapse of the family over the past couple of generations is, IMO, the reason we see the garbage we do. The best you can do is model the kind of behavior you want your kids to exhibit. Other than feed them, educate them, and keep them safe, that's our only jobs as parents.

Convert? No. Absolutely not. If I didn't have any particular set of beliefs and was forced to choose, I suppose I'd have to find out what I was getting into first. But it's easy to say that now. If I was in my teens, 20s, or 30s, might be a different story.

I'm inclined to agree for the most part. I've read several first-person accounts that describe a much kinder, relatively low-key individual. Certainly more modest. The problem I have is that the public sees the public Trump. Maybe he's crazy like a fox, but I wish he would tone down the antics, especially the Twitter grandstanding. Maybe it's just because I'm an old fart.

Calls to mind a book I read many years ago titled "The Hidden Value of a Man." In it they talk about the two "swords" every man wields. The silver sword: protector, provider, competitor, etc. The gold sword: compassion, caring, empathy, kindness.... Sadly, many men leave their gold sword in it's sheath most of the time. Sounds to me like Jordan has a good grasp of when and how those swords are to be used.

coalburned comments on Apr 12, 2019:
Finally, someone who can articulate the grotesque misuse of the term "phobia". People, especially on the left, love to append it to whatever cause they're defending in an effort to shame and/or marginalize the opposition. Jordan correctly calls it manipulative, and like him, I immediately raise a red flag when I hear it. I also like his take on becoming familiar with what you're criticizing. I'm guilty of ascribing certain behaviors to religious predisposition, and I'm probably wrong half the time. Sometimes evil is just....evil. I'll be the first one to admit I need to learn more about Islam.

Well said. Politics aside, I'd love to hear your full testimony. I believe God uses people like you to great effect.

Open borders, lowering the voting age, reparations, minimum wage increase, and I'm surely missing some...are all shameless attempts to grab votes. My hope is that those who are tempted to shout their approval for these proposals will think things through and realize that the Democratic party, overall, is far more interested in gaining power and maintaining control over our lives than they are about our personal freedom and well being.

BTW... Candace's opening statement at the hearing was a masterpiece. That was the best summation of racial manipulation I've ever heard. I'm so impressed by this woman....

Ted Lieu is a despicable human being. And Nadler should be ashamed of himself for not paying attention to Candace's response, which was damn near perfect.

I'm glad she stood up to him, but I expect that from Candace. What I appreciated is that her statements were 100% on the mark.
How do all of you view the 12 Apostles before the resurrection of Christ.
coalburned comments on Apr 10, 2019:
The apostles undoubtedly knew he was extraordinary and sent by God, but we see in Luke 24:45 that it wasn't until after the resurrection that Jesus opened their minds so they could fully understand who he was. They believed Christ's teachings and were chosen to carry the gospel forward, but they didn't have the necessary gifts to do that until Pentecost.

It's obvious you're well educated, but all you've really conveyed is that you don't like Jordan Peterson. Interesting opinion, but it would carry more weight if your claims were substantiated.
