Is this equally controversial? Trans Man Won His Debut as Professional Boxer – Rolling Stone
Naomi comments on Nov 3, 2019:
Right now I'm thinking of horse racing... Both male and female riders compete in equestrian events. Jockeys are all petite. So, size and weight matter but not gender. Boxing... It comes with weight classes. Does that mean as long as a boxer's weight falls into the right weigh range, the boxer's gender can be irrelevant? Morality... How about physically hurting a trans man who may still somewhat look like a woman in boxing, wrestling, etc.? Any decent parents would bring up their boys not to hurt girls and that moral value is supported by most of us. Is there a way to cancel out all the physical and biological differences between male and female so that only skills and abilities can be focused on? In all sports? Or simply ban all trans people from participating in any sports competitions that closely concern gender differences...? There is a lot to think about. 😩😩😩

Capitalism Didn’t Make the iPhone, You iMbecile - YouTube
Naomi comments on Nov 1, 2019:
Hello. I guess capitalism doesn't always make products by itself, but always facilitates mass production and sales of products, no? When a product is invented, it is useless unless it is industrially applicable (it can be made and used) and marketable (profitable). An invention (including R&D) of product can be funded by the state and capitalism can help with mass production and marketing of that product. So, sometimes we need both state and private ownership... no?

Pakistani mob in London protesting on Kashmir during Dawali 2019 - YouTube
Naomi comments on Oct 29, 2019:
Hello. Diwali, Divali, Deepawali or Dipavali - not Dawali. Diwali is a HINDU festival, not an Islamic festival. It is a festival of lights to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. If those protesters (they look like Muslims) in the video are taking the advantage of this innocent Hindu custom for their political agenda, they couldn't be more wrong. Meanwhile, I find Katie Hopkins' narrative misleading by not clarifying that Diwali is a Hindu festival. I dare say it looks like she is also taking the advantage of this innocent Hindu custom for attacking radical Islamic movements. I see very little fairness coming from either side, I'm afraid...

Hello. I'm wondering on what ground this YouTuber calls those unmarried childless women "leftover women". Is he suggesting that they are "on the shelf"? Individual choice as to how one wishes to lead one's life is important IMO.

The Cult of Muhammad [youtube.com]
Naomi comments on Oct 27, 2019:
Hello. The YouTuber points out: (1) There is no god but Allah. And (2) Muhammad is his messenger. One of the Ten Commandments of Mosses says: (1) You shall have no other Gods but me. And, (2) The Bible refers Jesus Christ as the messenger of God. He also says that if you don't believe in Muhammad, you shall go to hell. I was once told by a Christian friend that I would have to go to hell if I didn't believe in Jesus. So, what distinguishes between Islam being a cult and Christianity not being a cult (in terms of religious principles) ? I grew up in a non-religious environment, so, please educate me.

Gone Viral When It Shouldn't Have - Identity of Gender-Questioning Child Exposed After Websites ...
Naomi comments on Oct 25, 2019:
I'm often oblivious to whether I'm thinking in the left mode or in the right mode. If you say Snopes is a left-leaning information source, so be it. The point I see is that Snopes points out the distortion of facts; in this case, what was originally the divorce case of the boy's parents and the custody of the boy, the gender transition issue surrounding the boy was cleverly incorporated by the media, thereby diverting the focus from the actual divorce case to the indoctrination of the boy (which is obviously child abuse). Snopes also points out a violation of the ethics of journalism by the media by reporting the story the way they did. For example, in the UK, the identity of a child subjected to child abuse must never be revealed for legal reasons. Is it the same in your country? For these reasons, I think it is wrong that the Texas case has been presented and gone viral the way it has, and that instantaneous, almost hysterical reactions to the story by thousands of people are not helping. In any event, I think that the boy is the true victim of the polarised world of grownups.

What is your view on euthanasia?
Naomi comments on Oct 24, 2019:
The term "assisted dying" is used in the UK. I think it is nuance-sensitive; it carefully avoids the implication of "suicide" and "euthanasia", i.e., the right to kill oneself or the right to kill someone. In my understanding, "assisted dying" is about the right to die, not the right to be killed. There are people who suffer incurable illnesses and diseases and therefore wish to die with dignity while they can. They no longer have quality of life and do not wish to be kept alive. Assisted dying is currently illegal in the UK, so they have to go to Switzerland to fulfill their wish. Here is an article about assisted dying, including information (video) about DIGNITAS which provides assisted dying. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/assisted-dying-dignitas-law-change-19374391 Although it is a non-profit organisation, DiGNITAS charges a lot of money for its service. Maybe this is a preventative message saying "If you're put off by the amount we charge, maybe you haven't thought it through. Maybe, you're not serious enough about ending your life." You can also find documentaries about DIGNITAS on YouTube. Incidentally, I am also aware of arguments against assisted dying. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/euthanasia/against/against_1.shtml As always, thanks ever so much for your inputs.

Any thought on this TV ad?
Naomi comments on Oct 21, 2019:
What I personally find a little odd/unnatural is the little girl's line "I don't want to eat animals, any more." When I was a child, I didn't like meat very much, so I used to say "I don't like meat." but I don't remember that I ever said "I don't want to eat animals". Plus, the little girl says "any more", implying that she used to eat meat but no longer. What changed her mind? Is there a tiny bit of virtual-signaling element in the ad? How about the setting? There is only a father and his little daughter who looks Asian, implying his ex is Asian, or the girl is adopted. Do you think the ad is normalising this kind of family structure - possibly being politically correct? Or if any TV ad shows a very traditional family, would that be also politically correct? I'm probably reading into it too much - just exercising my tiny brain. Lol

Hello. Sorry that you're upset. And you must be a sincere person because you take this community very seriously. Unfortunately, this is still a virtual world. Very few of us reveal our real names and most of us are behind masks. When we are behind masks, we pretend to be someone else we are not - brave, heroic, idealistic, romantic, loving, feisty, aggressive, silly, rude, etc., etc. we can be anyone (avatar) because it is all in the virtual world. If you encounter any comments you don't like, just ignore them and move on. If you don't like trolls (although I don't see any truly hostile individuals here), just block them, and they'll have nothing to do with you. I always tell myself that this is just a virtual world, don't mix it up with the real world, and funnily enough, I find the virtual world is a lot more manageable than the real world I live in. Hello, I would consider the following points as well as the notion that a religion provides a basis of morality: *Morality is not just something that people learn, argues Yale psychologist Paul Bloom: It is something we are all born with. At birth, babies are endowed with compassion, with empathy, with the beginnings of a sense of fairness.* *As David Hume famously put it, we are slaves of the passions. Our moral judgments and moral actions are driven mostly by gut feelings—rational thought has little to do with it. I find this a grim view of human nature, but if it were true, we should buck up and learn to live with it.* https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-moral-life-of-babies/ Food for thought.
The 10 Commandments and Christian Morality [youtube.com]
Naomi comments on Oct 16, 2019:
Hello. The way Yaron ridicules the 10 commandments is funny. I believe that the commandments below are shared by most as basic moral values in the East; I don't think these moral values are specific to Christianity, or any religion for that matter. I think they're simply universal moral values. Respect your father and mother. You must not commit murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not give false evidence against your neighbour. You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour.

I initially thought it was wonderful to see this lady director doing well despite her disabilities until someone mentioned the description of duties and responsibilities of film/TV directors, which include sound direction, i.e., directing actors' vocalisations, sound effects, choosing music for different scenes, etc., etc., and if a director is hard of hearing and therefore has no choice but to transfer the sound direction responsibilities to someone else (not to mention being unable to give a final decision/confirmation), it has to be said the job half done and has to be reflected in the reward/pay given to that director. (I know it sounds harsh, especially after I encountered the lady who is a lovely person, but I'm trying not to be subjective here.) With this pointed out, words like abilities, skills, qualifications, experience, age, performance, achievement, etc., started flying around in my head (lol), and I started wondering about fairness as to how to balance those factors (quality) with rewards (quantity).

They should know that green energy is currently very expensive and very unreliable - just imagine that there is a prolonged power outage while a child is undergoing a heart operation... the child could die... Then, last year, in the UK, the Co-op introduced "compostable" carrier bags. It sounds great! These bags are currently available only at selected co-op stores; I haven't seen one in my town yet. I'm hoping that they will spread quickly, and that the same composition could be applied to different packaging materials in the near future. https://www.coop.co.uk/environment/carrier-bags

I've got the answer! How to solve the plastic packaging paradox - BBC News
Naomi comments on Sep 26, 2019:
"Some packaging is a foolish waste. *But are shrink-wrapped cucumbers really so silly if it means they stay fresh for 14 days rather than three? Which is worse 1.5g (0.05oz) of plastic wrap or entire cucumbers going off before being eaten? Suddenly it's not so obvious.* *Plastic bags stop bananas going brown so quickly, or new potatoes going green; they catch grapes that fall off bunches."* This is a powerful argument to me. We import fruit and vegetables from not-so-rich countries. Without packaging, so many of them rot before they reach our stores. That's a huge loss for growers, pickers, packers, transporters, etc., ultimately causing huge damage to the economies of the countries. So, in my opinion, it would be much better to focus on the improvement of packaging technology, including recyclable compositions for packaging materials, than focusing on the elimination of plastics.

Naomi comments on Sep 25, 2019:
Hello. Don't know what Trump really meant by his tweet, but it just sounds sarcastic and patronising to me. I don't think he is taking Greta seriously. I wonder if he was the same to his children when they were teens. Don't be silly, you're only a child, conversation is over, that sort of attitude. Many grownups are like that.

And this is my reply to iThink's comment (i.e., the original post) on GeeMac's page: *"Hello iThink. "The right thing to do with Greta would be to gently pat her on the head..." That's patronising! Lol Do you remember when you were child, how frustrating it was to have your ideas, thoughts or feelings brushed off by your teachers, parents or any grownups? Get told not to be silly - conversation over? I do. Grownups forget that once they were children themselves. Children have their own thoughts and their own feelings; no matter how childish, naive, immature, etc., they are still thoughts and they are still feelings. Children need to be listened to and made aware that there are some things that they haven't thought through (like "sell your car or you are going to die in the next 12 years" which doesn't make sense, right?) so that they will be wiser. Listen to them and guide them by all means, but don't just dismiss their views. That would be my approach if I had young children. Unfortunately, Greta is wrapped up in her passion and beliefs so much that she fails to understand how her actions are impacting on young minds. No one with a sane mind would tell children that they are going to die in a matter of years. There are so many children and young people already suffering depression. Why tell them such a thing? It's cruel. Someone has to talk to her face-to-face and unpick her thoughts. That would be the right thing to do for her IMO."* I would add that I am aware that Greta herself has a disposition to depression, not to mention she has Asperger's syndrome. Exploitation of people with mental health problems is truly a rotten thing to do. She has been used as a moral shield to silence others. It is so unhealthy that she mingle with politically-motivated adults. Instead, she should be mingling and discussing climate change with others at her own age. After all, climate change needs to be debated among young people. I fear that she will eventually be burnt out and have a breakdown, and there will be another Greta. I fear that there is manufacturing of Greta going on. I so wish someone or something could stop the entire thing.

To back up the original post, here is my comment in full: *"Hello. Greta is 16. I expect any 16-year-olds to be able to take responsibilities for and accept the consequences of their own actions. For that reason, I don't see her as a complete victim of post-modernism. I believe that her passion and beliefs are genuine, but I would assume that there are some things in her head which she has not thought through. It is not healthy, in my opinion, that she is given a microphone and make emotional speeches without being challenged. It does not lead to a discourse. She is entitled to her opinions and she is entitled to free speech, so are other teens who disagree with her. She and opposing teens should be given opportunities to debate on climate change. After all, climate change needs to be discussed among young people (I'm a skeptic, but not a denier). Greta should be listened to (what she really thinks, not the rhetoric she learned to speak) but not necessarily to be agreed with all the time. Her views need to be challenged by others in the same generation, not being bashed, ridiculed, or patronised, let alone being manipulated by adults."*
