I am the primary teaching pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, where I have served since 1993. I received my B.A. in Biblical Studies from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina, and I received my M.Div. from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. I am also a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. And, by the way, my last name has a silent ‘h’ and is pronounced ‘troop.’

Should parents have a choice of where to send their children to school?
KeithThroop comments on Aug 14, 2020:
Yes, parents should have the choice, and I support the idea of charter schools. I am nervous about the idea of school vouchers, however. My concern is that such vouchers will inevitably be seen as subsidies and that once they are accepted the government will then try to tell us what we can do if we take them. This will end up taking away the very choice we seek to have over the education of our children. I prefer the kind of competition that charter schools brings, so that parents can choose the kind of school to which they want to send their children. This may make it more difficult to pay for schooling for some parents, which is one of the factors (although not the the primary one) that led my wife and I to homeschool all three of our children. I'm sure I need to think about this more, though.

Portland police declare riot after protesters march on Mayor Ted Wheeler's residence, burning debris...
KeithThroop comments on Sep 1, 2020:
> Demonstrators shattered windows and broke into a dental office, taking items -- including a chair -- to add to the fire, the Oregonian reported. A bundle of newspapers was also set ablaze and thrown into a storefront, located on the ground floor of the residential building around 11 p.m. -- leading police to declare the gathering a riot. > > "This was the arson fire that prompted a riot declaration tonight," police wrote on Twitter. "It was critical to secure the area to allow firefighters to respond to this dangerous situation." So, illegally building a bonfire in the middle of the street, busting out windows, and breaking into businesses and stealing were not enough to declare a riot? It was only when they finally threw a burning bundle of newspapers into the building in which the mayor lived that led them to declare a "riot"? Good grief! Has no one though that, if they had declared a riot when they should have, before things got so out of hand, that maybe things wouldn't have gotten so out of hand? Apparently it wasn't even the arson itself that led to the declaration of a riot, since there has been plenty of arson in Portland before, but only when the arson was where the mayor lived, that finally got the declaration of a riot. The whole things is so stupid and disgusting.

Finding life Purpose on a Train in Germany [wrongspeak.net]
KeithThroop comments on Sep 3, 2020:
That article made me think back on my own search for meaning and purpose in life. For me it came with my conversion to Christianity at 20 years old. I have since found my purpose in seeking the glory of God in all that I do, seeking to live in a way that honors Him as my Creator and Savior. I have discovered in my study of the Bible that my purpose is to glorify God and that this is also what is ultimately the best for me. His glory and my good are not two separate ends, but, in His gracious plan, they are really one end. They are inextricably linked, so that, whatever brings Him the most glory is also the very best thing for me in the end, and whatever is the best for me in the end is also what brings Him the most glory. When I keep this in mind, I find that I lead a happy life and may find meaning and joy even in life's trials and tribulations. Note: I should add the important caveat that what is good or best for me is defined by Him and not be me.

Living here in the United States in what I have come to call "The Peoples' Republic of Illinois," due to its ever increasing Leftist government and policies, I took part in a widely announced and heavily attended "Open Illinois" protest in our state capital back in late May, when we were still in pretty heavy lockdown. Virtually no one at the protest wore masks or practiced social distancing, while the police stood off to the side and watched. No one was arrested or received any sort of citation so far as I know, and this was in one of our most liberal states. There was never a COVID-19 case linked to the protest, by the way. At any rate, just when I though we had in bad here in Illinois, I see this video and count my blessings. I have prayed for this poor woman and her family.

I think the accomplishments listed in The American Thinker suffice: > The Norwegian noted that Trump played a key role in this development, the biggest platform for peace since Israel's entente with Egypt several decades ago, and what's more, other Arab states would likely follow suit. In fact, quite a few are. And the troublemakers among them, such as the Palestinian "state," are walking back their opposition to the accord, with peace breaking out all over. > > On merit alone, by any objective standard, Trump's act is a massive contribution to peace. > > And it's not just the Israel-UAE peacemaking, either. > > Fact is, the Trump umbrella of peace is multiplicative. Trump's rub-out of Qassem Soleimani, Iran's chief terrorist, has led to global terrorism waning. Trump's peace-brokering between longtime enemies Kosovo and Serbia snuffed out another smoldering ember of war in Europe. Trump's risky move to engage North Korea's psychopathic dictator one-on-one, breaking all foreign policy conventional wisdom — created even more peace or at least bought time for something steadier, too — the freak, after all, had been hurling rockets at Los Angeles before that. And for keeping the U.S out of all wars and bringing troops home during his term, Trump deserves credit there, too. > > Yes, that's a heady record of peacemaking, and the Nobel committee couldn't ignore it if it cared about its credibility. That woman needs some help! I get that she didn't want to wear a mask. I don't want to wear one either, but a business owner has the right to demand that I wear one and to refuse me service if I don't. If I don't like that, I can go somewhere else. At any rate, this woman's behavior was inexcusable and should never be tolerated.

AmGreatness: VDH, the "great and powerful" Biden.
KeithThroop comments on Sep 14, 2020:
> Biden’s Oz functionaries seemingly are always experimenting with all sorts of screen props. The trick is to discover how best their challenged candidate can square the circle of completing sentences and remaining semi-coherent, while not giving away the game that his illusionists are feeding him answers to synthetic questions. It is hard not to laugh at Hanson's wit, even though this is both despicable and tragic.

Antifa & BLM

They are causing the same problems here in the U.S., as I'm sure you know. I'll be praying for both of our countries.
IT’S NOT YOUR IMAGINATION We’re tumbling down the slippery slope towards civil war.
KeithThroop comments on Sep 15, 2020:
I think that 1) President Trump must be re-elected, 2)that the riots need to be declared insurrectionist movements, based on their clear assertions of "death to America" and stated desires to destroy our political system, 3) military force should be used to put them down, and 4) the DOJ should wage all-out war on groups such as Antifa and BLM and terrorist organizations. If these things happen, especially in President Trump wins in landslide (I hope) and can declare a mandate to protect America from these things, then he could, in a second term, put an end to what we are seeing.
