Greed (Biblical) - the insatiable desire to have what rightfully belongs to others. vs (common) - An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, A capitalist economy (acquisition through mutually beneficial trades), excludes the top definition from the system (proper trades transfer property rights) and keeps greed to an individual's problem (ingratitude). As for the bottom definition, the excessive desire is punished by higher acquisition costs (I have to have the best computer = 5 times the cost, CEO must have a 6 figure salary = 90 hour work weeks with high cost for failure). Problems occur outside of the ideal. With cronyism, as an example, local telecoms can use government policies to exclude competition and extract a higher cost from a local market than what would be supported by an open market. This kind of systemic greed is bad.

I've always been of the opinion that AI will only be a shadow of the people that create it. In Michio Kaku's "Physics of the Future" AI (real AI) is not anticipated until 2100 at the earliest. He explores the challenges in current development and then takes time exploring some ramifications. Its a light read that I enjoyed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics_of_the_Future Of course Isaac Asimov's Robot books are farfetched but get the mind going in positive directions. For drafting a building project, there used to be a room filled with people (and clouds of cigarette smoke) using pens and templates to draw on vellum sheets. With computers, only 10% of those people are needed and the drawing packages include more detail. When I drive through crowded cities I wonder what all these people do in their office buildings. But, without any thinking from me, they all have work and a purpose. I'm optimistic and excited about advances in technology and AI.

As for chaos, people can be blocked. It leaves a blind spot, but for some it is appropriate. When a group moderator is trolling and then uses their position to block comments, I think the correct response is to leave the group. If someone is engaging appropriately I don't care to pile on. But if I see bad behavior I think its good as a community to register discontent.

Just listened to Shapiro's hour 3 from yesterday. He had Mohamed Aly El-Erian from Allianz on to talk about the current market situation. He noted that China will continue to have some growing pains as it transitions into a first world economy. He also mentioned the negative inflation market in Europe as a troubling signal. Talked briefly on the trade war but didn't see that as the primary cause of this current weakness. From what's happening in Hong Kong, a last desperate gasp for freedom, I don't necessarily see the collapse of the Chinese economy as a bad thing.
