The inherent risk is that the state government might recognize that it is entirely useless and unnecessary. This was the growing concern for the Federal government during the shut down. What is the price of free speech?
RobBlair comments on May 15, 2019:
The price for holding to free speech is to be exposed to other people's exercise of free speech. To put it another way, if I am allowed to speak hatefully to others, I should also allows other to speak hatefully to me. I use hate here to make the argument against limiting "hate" speech. Better words would be antagonistic, aggressive, hostile, etc..
Question.
RobBlair comments on May 15, 2019:
A small group of dissidents within a country starts shelling their neighbors. The nation responds with force to defend against the shelling. However, a much larger nation decides that they need to provide a "peace enforcement" operation in defense of the small group of dissidents (their political allies). This peace enforcement expands into a larger war and defeats the home country's military on multiple fronts. The dissidents ethnically cleanse the territories that they conquer by burning the villages of the native populations. Under a later cease fire, the larger nation promotes the gained territories to new nation status in a territorial dispute with the home country. This of course happened in August 2008 between Georgia and Russia. I don't know what Georgia could have done differently (they were pursuing NATO membership at the time), but it did not go well for them. For Israel - Iran, and all "just" wars, the following questions must be answered: - Does the nation have authority to engage in war? - Can they win? - Is peace the goal? - Will damages from inaction exceed damages done during war? - Have other options been exhausted?

Do not judge or you will be judged. We often think that the judgment upon us will come from outside. But, for many, if we point fingers and criticize others without any sense of forgiveness and redemption, those criticisms often become the voice in your head that winds up condemning your own actions. As a young adult I was happy to criticize parents who weren't able to settle their children in public places (my kid will never behave that poorly in public). Now, as a parent of two, I stand self-condemned but for forgiveness.

RobBlair comments on May 9, 2019:
Reasonable Democrats don't make the news. Of course, moderate Muslims don't prevent terrorism either. And all democrats can be counted on when bad, freedom losing legislation comes up for a vote. As an example, my senator Bob Casey, whose dad was known for his pro-life position from the left, was happy to add his vote to Obamacare which is federally funding abortions. Had he said a thing, he would have controlled the super majority vote. Recently, when his vote doesn't matter, he voted for a pro-life measure (children born alive act?). Of course the voters are fairly unreasonable too seeing as he was re-elected for doing nothing for his state.

- Specific group on predetermined answer. I agree a lot with Hannity but I don't enjoy watching him. I think I understand what you are getting at. The general doctor has a general focus on our health. If anything specific is identified they immediately kick us to a specialist. The specialist deals only with their specialty and is potentially ignoring other symptoms. Where's Doogie Howser MD when you need him? It'd probably help to look at this from the doctor's point of view. They interview the witness (you) and listen for clues and discrepancies in your interview. They have the ability to order expensive x-rays and scans but first they need to eliminate the low hanging fruit. Where does it hurt? Did you travel out of state? Anybody in your family have similar problems? BP, weight, height, medical history. Are these answers true? The doctor knows that 90% of the time people with these answers have this problem. That problem can be cheaply treated with a drug. Here's your drug, let me know if anything changes and goodbye. Of course, 2% of the people with these answers have something drastic but it's expensive to diagnose and treat. Of course that won't be what the Dr focusses on. Doctors work on eliminating the cheapest and obvious problems first. I think WebMD is extremely valuable for people to explore before going to the doctors. That way they can evaluate themselves before the appointment.

RobBlair comments on May 3, 2019:
So Sachs has bought into the idea that this land was seized from the native population and that returning this land will help right the historical wrong. Effectively, this is the same argument in the US for black reparations for slavery. Here's why this thinking is ignorant: - The original owners of the land and the people who allegedly stole the land are no longer alive. - Actual theft is important to establish. Any negotiated land sale or military conquest should be honored. - Trying to rewrite history is self destructive and a display of hubris. - The injustice caused by a government sweep of its sword held hand will never be outweighed by what little justice it seeks to amend. - This is just state sanctioned theft Unless you can match a group doctrine with an individual's behavior, do not associate the two. Saying communists are thieves would be appropriate since theft for the "common good" is arguably one of their tenants. Tying Jews to this foolishness discounts the Israeli's that were hired by the farmers to train them in self defense.

Probable cause must be established against an unlawful act. Presumably, in this case, the unlawful act must be something along the lines of mentally ill and judged to be unsafe to themselves and/or the public. Colorado has no such standard outside of patients under supervision. Step one needs to be making it illegal for someone who has been adjudicated as a danger to themselves and the public due to metal illness from owning a weapon. Pennsylvania does have this criteria. Step two would then be issuing a warrant to take possession of the suspected firearms. And done - already on the books. Let's try some scenarios: 1. Crazy Mr. Plum threatened to shoot my son when he picked an apple off of his tree. And we're done. This is intimidation and its illegal. Laws are already on the books. 2. Uncle Joe is getting older and is losing his mental facilities. He's got some scary looking guns and we are concerned that he might be a danger to himself. Too bad. He is an independent person and gets the same rights as everyone else. Perhaps you should talk to him about your concerns? 3. An honorably discharged war veteran seemingly has a mental breakdown and is treated by the VA. Later he sends a vulgar diatribe to his Alma Mater which isn't verbally threatening but does contain a picture of him with a gun. The text is enough to encourage local police to increase security and notify the veteran's home police. Weeks later, police respond to yelling coming from the veteran's home. The veteran tells the police to go away, you don't have a warrant and then proceeds to shoot at the police killing one brave officer(father of two). A year later while standing on the grave of this brave officer, a wannabe Presidential candidate has his state pass legislation that would do absolutely nothing to prevent this gun violence but will ensure many more warrantless attempts to confiscate guns from lawful owners. No doubt more violence will ensue.

RobBlair comments on Apr 29, 2019:
In Christianity, the greatest commandment is Love God and Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:30-1 paraphrased). In spite of this, the history of the church is scattered with many acts of violence and barbarism where one can clearly say the church moved itself away from Christianity. In Islam - "Abu Dharr reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which of the deeds is the best? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Belief in Allah and Jihad in His cause. ..." Muslim 1:149 and "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." Quran 9:29 and "But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. " Quran 9:5 In short, the Christian church, with clear instructions to "...love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matthew 5:44 (NIV) still has had quite the history being reformed. How much harder it must be to the Muslim, who acknowledges the blessings of western culture but is yet faced with instructions (unclear at best) to do harm to those who do not submit? It must be noted that the Quran passages 9:5 and 29 abrogate or write over many of the earlier more peaceful texts in the Islamic texts (ex. 8:61 "But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah: for He is One that heareth and knoweth (all things)." is "written over" by 9:5). RobBlair comments on Apr 29, 2019:
How the Libertarian Party is different than the Republican Party: 1. Doesn't support protection for the life of the unborn 2. Opposes government defining, limiting or meddling with consenting adults' relationships and does not recognize any government role in the raising of children except in cases of abuse or neglect. (I would assume the abuse definition is narrowly defined here). 3. Supports the freedom and personal responsibility for people to consume what they choose (drugs, etc...) 4. Opposes the income tax (doesn't suggest a replacement) 5. Decriminalize prostitution 6. Phase out Social programs (social security, medicare, medicaid, ...). In contrast to Republicans proposing financially sustaining and modernizing measures. 7. End current foreign intervention policies - foreign aid and wars. 8. End election provisions that unfairly promote the dominant political parties. As an aside - whoever wrote the GOP party platform planks should be fired. Less words, more substance

There was a fire at a precast concrete parking garage project I designed. The fire was caused by a pile of rags, that were used to clean up some sealant, being left in the Sun. Minimal damage to the concrete. What he says about heavy timber is correct. They do not catch fire but have to be exposed to significant temperatures in order to overcome the charring that protects the inner core of the timber. Wait and see is the appropriate approach. Listening to people jump to the conclusion that this was an accident should be ridiculed (as also to any conclusion without evidence).

"Jardina finds little evidence of a connection between economic status and white identity but a “powerful and robust” link between white identity and negative attitudes toward immigration." - https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/ashley-jardina/white-identity-politics/ Is this robust link shared with any other racial group? Does she exclude Hispanics from "white" identity? How? "We can’t mask the fact that we’re also talking about the protection and preservation of whites in the United States at the expense of racial and ethnic minorities, and I think that’s part of the problem." - In the context of immigration, are we not also talking about the protection and preservation of racial and ethnic minorities. Specifically, the low income black Americans who have to compete against immigrants for their jobs? "When we often talk about white racial attitudes, we talk about prejudice as this antipathy for people who aren’t white, and usually that means white antipathy for black Americans or Muslim Americans or Latino Americans or whoever." - White Muslims are prejudiced against themselves. I'm gonna stop reading there. The University system and the peer review system has failed this woman. Go find some conservatives in your college and have this draft covered in red ink.

RobBlair comments on Apr 25, 2019:
Feminism tells women that they need to be more like men to be appreciated. They are graded on how well they perform in an office, how they do at sports, how sexually promiscuous they are. This is not who women are. Women who stay home and raise children are happier but are not appreciated by the feminist mantra. This is stupid and culturally destructive.

“None of you has faith until he loves for his brother or his neighbor what he loves for himself.” Sahih Muslim 1:72 “You will not enter Paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves.” Sahih Muslim 1:96 And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend. 41:34 And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. 42:40 Of course abrogation abrogates the abrogated abrogation. So, these two passages exist in the same text: Those who believe (in the Quran) and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures) and the Christians and the Sabians, - Any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. 2:62 and If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to God), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good). 3:85

RobBlair comments on Apr 24, 2019:
Questioning Israeli expansion does not make someone antisemitic. Suggesting that Israel, unlike other nations, has no right to go to war against people that routinely launch rockets into their country, does suggest something intellectually dishonest. Why do people treat Israel different than other nations? Do we treat Iran different than other nations? They have stated that they want to wipe out our ally and they are developing nuclear weapons. They fund terrorism against us. They are in the same category as North Korea. Compare that to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, etc... The anti-semite parallel for Iran would be anti-aryan.
