Trump Just LOST His Legal Appeal In Twitter Case, Ruling Backfires On Ocasio-Cortez - YouTube
RobBlair comments on Jul 9, 2019:
ughh. We need to fire more federal judges. Don't really care about the particulars regarding Trump, etc... But the idea that someones voice must be presented to some one else's should not be under free speech. People aren't allowed into congress or the white house uninvited to talk on the floor. Why would an electronic platform be different?
Is Elizabeth Warren just stupid or what?
RobBlair comments on Jul 9, 2019:
I would suggest, considering her credentials, that you not give her the excuse of being stupid. Manipulative, pandering, maybe short-sighted, but not stupid. A morally depraved human being who finds power worth more than her soul. A warning for all.
Wikipedia Editors Battle to Hide Bill Clinton’s Link to Jeffrey Epstein – Summit News
RobBlair comments on Jul 9, 2019:
You too can be an editor of wikipedia and you can trace the edits through time. It's a good jumping off point but one should assume that in a world where college professors are 90% leftist, and CNN anchors claim no bias, that the people editing wikipedia are not as objective as they think they are.

How Collegiate 'Victim' Degrees Monetize and Perpetuate Oppression - YouTube
RobBlair comments on Jul 9, 2019:
If people want to buy VHS tape recorders, let them. Just don't ask me to pay for it. As for employers accepting any old degree, the degree is acting as a super expensive IQ test. Employers would do better to remove the degree requirement and just screen prospective employees better. I'd think some of these degrees wind up being a hindrance to productivity. My kids will do an economic analysis before I help them with college. They will identify what salary is expected for someone in their major and they will justify the cost of college against that salary and time lost. If they want to be an artist I'll send them to Italy for a month with a sketch pad, an art book and a list of local help wanted ads that they can apply for when they get back.
Is facial recognition the new fingerprinting, or something much worse? [reason.com]
RobBlair comments on Jul 9, 2019:
There is no expectation of privacy for a photo on a drivers license. And, none when you are out and about in public. Not happy about the idea of a secret police state though. Perhaps we should require all facial searches be documented and revealed, with an explanation, after every year? Improper searches should be accompanied with a hearing/fine to the perpetrator.

BS sniffer should go off when you read "County" jails. https://www.matthoraklaw.com/criminal-defense/sentencing-in-texas/state-prison-vs-jail/ "A county jail is typically for holding several offenders who will only be there temporarily." This article brings to light some important discussions and hints on others (bail assessment, right to a quick trial, presumption of innocence, etc...). Unfortunately, the premise in the title is wrong.

In the case of the silver bullet (one parent accusing the other of child abuse to receive more time with the children), cut the child in two and give half to each parent. Truth - The agent told AOC when she was drinking from the toilet, "If you want water, don't drink from the toilet." https://therightscoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/sink_toilet_border-620x416.jpg I'd want to lash out with a lie too if I made that mistake.
"You inevitably become the thing you hate the most" - paraphrased from Nietzsche.
RobBlair comments on Jul 3, 2019:
Not sure I agree with becoming what you hate but I do think that you worship the opposite of what you fear. As an example, if you are afraid of being poor then you worship wealth. Also in line with this thinking, any permissive behavior in yourself, becomes a behavior you see in others. If you are constantly trying to swindle people, everyone you deal with seems to be trying to swindle you. Same with lying and hating. This quote, as far as its true, provides a good reason for forgiveness. With forgiveness, any reason for hating another is disposed of and unshackles you from the person you should hate.

What is the ecological importance of humans?
RobBlair comments on Jul 2, 2019:
Ecological balance towards what? What is the imagined end goal? If the end goal is seen to be without humans then we bring nothing to the table. If the end goal is to add interest, sophistication, love, art and passion to the world, then we are invaluable. Ecologically, we are embedded in the existing system (we are a part of the ecology). We are the managers of this world and have the power to carve out valleys and raise mountains. We preserve habitats and destroy others. We cause change. This is a good question to expose the nihilists. If you have no purpose or belief then your existence is an affront to everything that may be perceived to have a purpose (like a chunk of rock floating through space).

RobBlair comments on Jul 1, 2019:
https://www.humanprogress.com/human-progress-really/ "In short, people are living longer, healthier, more fulfilling lives." The current power system is trying to hold on by spreading lies that serve to destabilize anyone that will listen (was that taxcut really a taxcut? - said the serpent). In order for serious people to move in to a war footing, there will need to be massive economic failures. For the US, if we do choose leadership that has no consideration for economic ramifications on policies (free candy for all!) then perhaps a quick failure of our freedom structure will follow. More likely, people will not vote to "feed the whales," and will continue on a course of eliminating the current embedded power system. I'd love to see a time where lying is rewarded appropriately.

Supreme Court allows warrantless blood draws of unconscious drivers... [reason.com]
RobBlair comments on Jun 28, 2019:
Hate to disagree with my favorite Supreme Court Justice, but I think it appropriate here. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." The idea that a state could preempt a consent opens the door to much abuse. Mitchell had already admitted to drinking and driving. The blood test should clearly be unnecessary. Further, he passed out on the way to the hospital. Any neighborhood that can't produce a jury to convict this man without a blood test, deserves to have drunk drivers.

Is science-denialism the same on the Left as it is on the Right?
RobBlair comments on Jun 12, 2019:
There are lots of bite sized truths that can be agreed on regarding global warming. If I state that CO2 levels are rising due to man made causes I think most people could quickly come around to that. If I said that a bunch of well meaninged bureaucrats in Washington DC need control over our energy decisions so they can save the world, only an historically ignorant troglodyte would agree with that. I think the race IQ problem is on both sides of the political spectrum. Although ignorant, it feels good to suggest that everyone can accomplish their dreams. Actually, unless your dreams are bland, no one can accomplish their dreams. We are assigned inherent abilities at birth and we are stuck with them. We have no say over cosmic justice. Never thought of Muslim integration as being related to science denial More so, I think it has to do with how disposable some people treat their own beliefs and then transfer that (incorrectly) to people who actually have a doctrine that guides their life. The gender confusion goes along the same lines as the IQ delusion. We are not our own god. As for left leaning journals, I think we'd do ourselves a service to name exactly which journals published the rubbish and then hold them accountable. When we demand accuracy in our information sources, we will get it. If we excuse them for their partisanship we release sewage into our drinking water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scholarly_publishing_stings#Interdisciplinary_and_cultural_studies

One has to wonder what "far right beliefs" are if a black woman espouses them. The Vox-pol study cited, includes anyone who wants to protect "Western Civilization" as far-right. They further clarify that this includes Trump and his supporters. One should pause to recognize that this collection of people now include at least 40% of the voting public in America. I'm gonna stop reading the article now. I have to believe that the NYT has been caught shorting the truth and instead of coming clean they are doubling down on their own lies. It happened in Spain in the last century. It happened in Germany. It happened in Italy. It happened in Japan.” and lets go ahead and add Venezuela to the list. History again and again shows the prescience of our founding fathers. The reasoning for the right to bear arms is to combat the potential for Federal tyranny and this is written right into the language. What isn't addressed is how each individual state is allowed to regulate this freedom. The incorporation of the 2nd Amendment at the state level via the 14th amendment only recently occurred in a 2010 Supreme Court decision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald_v._City_of_Chicago

Germany's Energiewende Flatlines [forbes.com]
RobBlair comments on May 20, 2019:
Just a spec of skepticism and all that money Germany wasted on tilting with windmills could have been spent on research into actual energy possibilities. 1. If solar energy is worthwhile, why does Arizona only get maybe 6% of it's total energy supply from it? 2. If solar panels don't make sense in Arizona, where sunshiny days account for 85% of the year, and considerably closer to the equator, why would Germany think it'd make sense there? 3. The cost curve on wind power does provide some speculation into the use of future wind turbine generators. The cost per kWH has plummeted over the decades. However, wind suffers from the same major problem solar does except in a worse way. When the wind isn't blowing, where is the electricity coming from? Battery technology is not yet where it needs to be. 4. There is a speculative sunset coming for the use of these energy sources. Commercial fusion generators will start their early days within the next decade. This shortsightedness by the Germans can only be excused by ignorant mob mentality pushing an agenda using fear and foolishness.
I think we need to talk about whats going on with the site.
RobBlair comments on May 20, 2019:
OK seems the guidelines are a little more focused now. The one most pertinent is: "4. We welcome debate and dissent but personal attacks, persistent trolling and similar abuse will not be tolerated" I don't have a problem with this. I'd prefer some tolerance and a correcting/teaching method so that we have a chance to repent, but that function would require more features with our posts. (ex. you identify a post that personally attacks you - click on actions - click on "Violation - Request Post Correction" - identify what guideline is being violated and add a private message with concerns. Post is blocked from view until owner edits it) The other one : "6. Recognise that there is a difference between criticising a politician, government, organisation, religion or belief and attacking people." So we shouldn't castigate all of the non-American English speaking people because they don't spell properly. I think the biggest lesson to be learned is patience. We didn't pay for this site. We don't make the rules. Give IDW the time to implement policies. Do not consider this place a Democracy. No one else has a vote on policy. Keep current and past policy problems between you and IDW unless you are proposing a new policy for group discussion. There are whole groups dedicated to discussions that other sites are known to be intolerant of.

Thoughts on “Disadvantage Scores” in college admissions.
RobBlair comments on May 17, 2019:
People with higher IQs are more successful. More successful people are richer. Rich people like to live in rich neighborhoods. Rich people have higher IQ children. Higher IQ children score higher on the SATs. The American higher education system is historically one of the best systems to go through the population and sort us by intelligence. In Murray's book "Coming Apart" he attempts to illustrate why this sorting is not entirely a positive thing (a continuation of what he tried to discuss in "The Bell Curve"). The social fabric of the more successful has been maintained. Meanwhile, the less successful, who have been indoctrinated with the "don't get married, don't go to church, do what you want" social mantra are diving into deeper social failure. I argue that the solution isn't to promote people above their abilities (which is what these affirmative action programs wind up doing) but to re-value the working class and to de-value the college degree.

RobBlair comments on May 16, 2019:
Any [blank] phobia term tends to be used to mischaracterize those who criticize. I would forward the term anti-Islam as appropriate. Muslims are individual people who hold to Islam at many different levels and may someday come to renounce that belief. Islam is the doctrine and it is available and appropriate for us to criticize rationally like all other ideas and convictions.

Great Quote?
RobBlair comments on May 16, 2019:
Disagree. Morality must be solely in the individual's domain. If a person has the cure to cancer and demands an exorbitant price for others to use it, that is not immoral but is certainly an adverse affect to society. If someone had the opportunity to steal the cure for cancer and give it freely to society, that is immoral but would be an apparent benefit to society. I have written the above in a way that most people see it, but consider: A person only developed the cure for cancer because they knew they would be well rewarded. Take the incentive away and you are left with nothing. If society accepts theft as a means to benefit itself, it degrades what it means to own property. Without ownership of property, you lose the incentive to own and you are left with nothing. So to come full circle, I agree with the statement as long as you have an eternal perspective. We don't so lets stick to individual rights.

No, they are just happy to exploit foolish governments that destabilize themselves. It should surprise no one that GS, recognizing a volatile region, is large enough to self insure their investments while requiring a higher yield on those investments to cover the higher risk. They probably have a whole department reviewing South Africa's government so they can accurately predict when to pull out and make the biggest buck on a bad situation. I hesitate to label GS's actions evil though. Relieving liars and fools of their money is a service to humankind (will shorten their reign of power and be a lesson learned to those who look). I just wish there weren't all the innocents under the regime who stand to lose greatly in this epic mistake. I would certainly not purchase a South African government bond from GS but if I were in SA I'd probably use GS to offshore any extra money I had in savings.
