RobBlair comments on Apr 23, 2019:
1. Eric Bolling recently had an episode where he did police training. He knew that use of force would be required in each scenario but was bumbling quite a bit in his reaction to the many situations that could come up in a situation. Use the gun, use the zapper, get behind cover, watch out for bystanders, etc... Wish I could provide a link. Very informative. 2. Roger Stone's on site arrest by a swat team was justified under the "suspect might destroy documents" argument. That argument is too broad and the use of a swat team and no-knock warrants needs to be dialed back. 3. This is funny and should provide more appreciation for what cops have to deal with - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j_K7K4gs6Q

"Q: Why have there been more measles cases in the United States in recent years? A: In 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015, states reported more measles cases compared with previous post-elimination years. CDC experts attribute this to: more measles cases than usual in some countries to which Americans often travel (such as England, France, Germany, India, the Philippines and Vietnam), and therefore more measles cases coming into the US, and/or more spreading of measles in U.S. communities with pockets of unvaccinated people. For details about the increase in cases by year, see Measles Outbreaks." https://www.cdc.gov/measles/about/faqs.html#if

"Now the trumpet summons us again — not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are — but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation" — a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. ... And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own." - JFK http://www.ushistory.org/documents/ask-not.htm

Barring libel and calls to violence, I still think the first step needs to be directed directly at the person making the uncivil post. Make it an option (next to the reply button) to flag a comment directed to the person and request that they change their post. If they don't respond (put a time limit on it), the uncivil post gets upgraded to a higher authority. If I say something uncivil I'd like a chance to defend it or fix it.

If the death penalty is prescribed for lesser crime, then it stands to reason that it should be imposed for the most "wicked".https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura6.html#93 - Killing for homosexuality - "...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)" https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura7.html#80 - Subjugation of non-believers - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura9.html#29 A list of other "bad" things - https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/index.aspx The noble quran - https://quran.com/ Regarding the current version of the Quran. RobBlair comments on Apr 18, 2019:
There are 2 problems as I see it. First, the Federal government is legally restricted from negotiating the price of drugs for Medicare part D. Obama promised to correct this and failed in his 8 years. Trump still has 6. In any case, this is a legislative issue which won't go anywhere under the current climate. Second, giving the Federal government negotiating power over a private captured market seems like a really bad idea prone to considerable abuse. My suggestion to level the field is to require the Pharmaceuticals to sell the drugs at the average price they sell to everyone else. Medicare is a heavy and should easily be able to demand an average price. This will put appropriate upward pricing pressure on other buyers and minimize the loss of revenue for the pharmaceuticals so they can continue R and D for future drugs.

Medicare for all in the US (single-payer system): Yay or Nay?
RobBlair comments on Apr 17, 2019:
How about medicare for none? Medical services are too expensive - Let's introduce market forces and competition back into our medical choices. Standard procedure prices are published. You get financially penalized for using expensive services and rewarded for choosing cheaper options. And, put caps on lawsuits against doctors. You went in sick, they tried. Doctors aren't there to pay for funeral services. Drugs are too expensive - require Pharmaceutical companies to charge US clients the same price as they charge other nations or pay a tax on the difference. Eliminate the "US pays for all R&D" problem. People without money use the services - I think there is a role for the public to fund limited emergency services only. This public funding should come from the local community. Seems harsh but will save more lives than going to a single payer system will there is no incentive for improvement.

Is one's first feeling, 'Thank God, even they aren't quite so bad as that,' or is it a feeling of disappointment, and even a determination to cling to the first story for the sheer pleasure of thinking your enemies are as bad as possible? If it is the second then it is, I am afraid, the first step in a process which, if followed to the end, will make us into devils. You see, one is beginning to wish that black was a little blacker. If we give that wish its head, later on we shall wish to see grey as black, and then to see white itself as black. Finally we shall insist on seeing everything -- God and our friends and ourselves included -- as bad, and not be able to stop doing it: we shall be fixed for ever in a universe of pure hatred." C.S. Question about confiscation of wealth
RobBlair comments on Apr 15, 2019:
Theft by any name. Either we are free or we are not. We have certain collective arrangements that we provide for; government, common defense, etc... I'd like to get back to the government justifying how much it takes from each individual. The progressive tax structure allows too much burden to be unjustly placed haphazardly on the wealthy. Who uses government services? The poor. You could argue for some progressive rate to cover the defense bill, but not where it is today. We'd get rid of 80% of our poor if we taxed them. Another 10% could use a helping hand from charity. And the last 10%, well a great man said they will always be with us.

RobBlair comments on Apr 11, 2019:
I like Federalism. The response should be to federally reject that state's ID as citizenship identification. Under Article 4 section 2 - "The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States." Since the ID no longer represents citizen status, any state that encounters such an ID may also impose restrictions on that ID until citizenship status is established. Example, you get pulled over with a California ID in another state, that state doesn't know whether you are entitled to be driving on its roads and demands federal ID (ICE swings by and you get to go home). This can't be applied in reverse since citizenship entitles you to privileges and immunities.

I think the national identity plays a major part. With an identity that holds that all life is valuable and worthy of respect, it argues against foreign aggression and opportunism. A healthy examination of the Spanish-American war by Americans will suggest some shame in how we handled our foreign relationships even though we expanded our territory nationally. I doubt the same is true regarding China and Tibet. The great advantage of civic nationalism is that it requires people to examine themselves as more than just an ethnicity but also as a idea and a philosophy, much like a religious organization.

I'll accept this line of complaint as long as you know about open secrets and have used it before voting for your politician. Further, if I want to donate to a politician I should be allowed to. Islam has contributed to some of the world's greatest achievements and learning.

Here are the top names in each field of human accomplishment as determined and sourced by the powers that be in each one of those fields. Excludes recent history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Accomplishment In Murray's book I believe his list extends to 100 names for each field so I'm sure there might be one or two muslim names on there other than just arabic literature. My favorite painting in the Philadelphia art museum is "the Moorish Chief" which of course was painted by an Austrian. https://www.philamuseum.org/collections/permanent/102792.html In architectural history class we did study some of the Moorish architecture. The take away shouldn't be to denigrate Islam for it's few positive accomplishments. But, we should critically look at the doctrine it teaches and recognize the evil that it has encouraged and spread everywhere it is taught and demand that those who espouse that faith mitigate it's destructive behavior.

RobBlair comments on Apr 10, 2019:
The current pile of garbage immigration law gives considerable power to the Attorney General to remove an Alien who is seeking asylum if we have a bilateral deal with another country (Mexico - so thats done, move them all to Mexico). The 2nd exemption is clear proof that they have filed for asylum within 1 year of arrival. Not at a port of entry, we don't know - you go home. This is a bit disingenuous but this is getting more frustrating. The AGs decisions regarding these exemptions do not come under court review. The Secretary of Homeland or the AG "may" grant asylum. "May" does not mean "shall" (keep justice Roberts away from this). https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1158

Responsibility and authority should never be separated. If we are established as free people, then we truly have the responsibility and authority to order our lives. If we are slaves then that responsibility falls to our owners and the fruits of our labor is placed under the authority of our master.
Does anyone else feel like this?

Was touched by the BLM segment. Enjoyed Molyneaux's closing. When I read "Skeptical Environmentalist" by Bjorne Lomborg the first chapters were about the tricks, lies and deceits that were used to purposely mislead people regarding facts and figures. It would be worthwhile to document tricks, lies, and deceits used by media outlets. If we could invigorate a healthy skepticism into our media consumption, we might be able to get it back to usable. For instance, knowing who is paying for a political hit piece is important to a news story. Not having that answer should open a source to skepticism.
